Second Life
Posted by Cheryl Lykowski on 22nd April 2007
I’ve been spending my free time (is there such a thing?) exploring Second Life. I can see where this can become ever so slightly addicting! Especially when you can visit so many cool places. I’ve been following a few people that are blogging about their experiences in SL and I’ve been checking different places out. I’ve been to the Virginia Tech wall memorial. It is eerily quiet there. Not much conversation but what can you say about it when most of us don’t understand why it happened. On the lighter side I rode a dolphin and I’ve had an orca swim right by me! I’ve visited the Star Trek museum, Imagination Island, stopped by Kathy Schrock’s house (no one was home), and hopefully I’ll run into some others that I might know. I can definitely see the wondrous possibilities of learning and teaching within SL, but I agree with Jen, I would not bring students here! I also teach in a K-6 building and this is no place for that young of students. I definitely can see the possibilities for older students and there is a Teen Life for those that are 13-18 years old. Professional development would have a whole new meaning in SL and I hope to participate soon. I hope to see some of you around in SL but for now I need to get back to RL.
